FAQ’S
Botox is a neurotoxin known as Botulinum Toxin, we carefully inject into the muscles of facial expressions, it works by preventing the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which is the chemical that sends signals to the brain telling the muscles to move.
This is how we relax the muscles and stop them contracting, preventing the lines and wrinkles. It can take up to 2 weeks to see the full results from the Botox.
Fillers contain Hyaluronic acid which is naturally found within the body and our skin. Fillers are injected into the area of the face required where it adds instant volume and plumpness. The hyaluronic acid in the filler draws water to the treatment area creating full and plump looking skin/lips. It also encourages the natural production of collagen within our skin which is needed for youthful looking skin.
Facial filler and Botox appointments are usually 35-40 minutes long, this includes your consultation. With Botox you are asked to revisit Jessica 2 weeks after your initial appointment to discuss your results and top up the Botox if required.
Facial fillers last between 6 & 12 months, however we are all different and may naturally break down the filler at a different rate. the naturally occurring substance, Hyaluronidase, in our bodies is what is responsible for breaking down the fuller. Lip Fillers tend to break down more frequently than other Facial Fillers due to the movement our lips undertake each day.
Botox lasts roughly 4-6 months before requiring another treatment, however if your facial muscles begin to train themselves to contract less, the period of time for each treatment may be extended longer than the 4-6 months.
Everybody is different with their pain threshold, however we do everything we can to make the appointment as pain free as possible! Before treatment, we apply topical numbing cream to the area to numb from the outer layers of skin. Filler also contains Lidocaine, a numbing agent which starts to work on the inner layers of the lip from the first injection.
Botox is injected using the finest needle, so minimal in size that most clients would barely blink at the slight pinch of breaking the outer skin. If you are a newbie to Botox, or have super sensitive skin, we can apply topical numbing cream to the area to minimize any pain.
Filler is made of hyaluronic acid which is a substance naturally found within our bodies, this makes it safe to use and limits any reactions.
Yes, Botox is an FDA approved treatment for facial lines and wrinkles. However, clients who are pregnant, breastfeeding or have certain neurological diseases should not receive Botox.
The injection techniques cause an inflammatory response which can cause disappointment over the following weeks as the swelling/inflammation subsides. Your lips may appear smaller than how they looked immediately after the filler is injected.
Please don’t worry- the filler has not dissolved or disappeared. The filler product has in fact sunk into your lips and formed a base layer of volume. The majority of clients may find they require 2 or 3 treatments to layer the filler to build up and have no more room to naturally sink in, leaving you with the fuller and plumper look you require. Once the filler is built up, you should only need to replace the top layer every 9-12 Months.
A safe way to build up your lips would be to have the first layer on Month 1, the second layer on Month 3 and the third layer on Month 5.
Patience and safety is key.
